Learning After Effects

Finally liberated! The degree has been gotten and I now have some (marginally) free time for all those projects and things to learn that I had to put off. Today I started experimenting with After Effects and, inspired by Matt Jones @ Berg London‘s concept video for Clocks for Robots, the first thing I wanted to try was mapping a shape layer to a surface and have it rotate and track with the camera movement. This is the kind of stuff I hope will allow me to mock up quick videos of digital concepts in the future.

Here is the result:

The video cannot be shown at the moment. Please try again later.

I could have spent more time on this and tidied up the feral corners that tend to veer off now and again, but I am pretty sure I am going about the process in the wrong way. I currently have to make key frames along the timeline for my shape layer and drag the corners back into place at their most rebellious positions. Hoping to find someone who knows and get some feedback from them, or a link to a tutorial soon.
